CJC-1295: What the Research Actually Shows

CJC-1295 is one of the more genuinely human-data-backed compounds on this list, built around one solid foundational trial rather than a broad literature. That's worth knowing before assuming there's a deep evidence base behind it.

What CJC-1295 is

CJC-1295 is a long-acting analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), designed to extend the natural, short half-life of GHRH so it produces a more sustained stimulation of the body's own growth hormone release.

What's actually been studied

  • The foundational human trial. Two randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, ascending-dose trials in healthy adults examined CJC-1295's pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and safety. A single injection produced sustained, dose-dependent increases in growth hormone and IGF-1 levels lasting multiple days, and the compound was reported as safe and reasonably well tolerated at the doses tested (Teichman et al., Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2006, PubMed).
  • Animal model work. A separate study examined once-daily CJC-1295 administration in a GHRH-knockout mouse model (mice genetically unable to produce their own GHRH), and reported normalized growth in that model (PubMed, mouse study).

Where the evidence is thin

The 2006 human trial is the foundational evidence for essentially everything claimed about CJC-1295 in humans, and it was a pharmacokinetic and safety study in healthy adults, not a trial measuring body composition, muscle gain, fat loss, or any of the downstream outcomes commonly discussed online. It establishes that the compound reliably raises GH and IGF-1 levels; it does not establish what happens to strength, body composition, or long-term health from sustained use, since that wasn't what the trial measured.

The regulatory picture

CJC-1295 is not FDA-approved for any use. It's sold by research chemical vendors strictly for laboratory research, not for human use.

Papa's take

The 2006 trial is real, peer-reviewed, and does what it set out to do: show that CJC-1295 raises GH and IGF-1 in a sustained way in healthy adults. The mistake I see online is treating "raises GH and IGF-1" as equivalent to "proven to build muscle or improve body composition," which is a separate claim the foundational trial never tested.
